CAF suspends El Nasr star after failing doping test

CAF on Wednesday suspended El Nasr el Benghazi player Khalid Al Maryam for three months after he failed a drug test.

The total ban for the Libyan player is two years but 21 months has been suspended. The suspension takes effect from 27 February 2020 till 27 May 2020.

Al Maryam failed that test during a CAF Confederation Cup tie against South Africa’s Bidvest Wits on January 12.

A statement published on CAF website said the player tested positive for a substance that’s on the prohibited list.

“The Libyan tested positive for ‘11-nor-9-Carboxy-delta-THC’ a prohibited substance following doping test carried out during the match played on 12 January 2020 in Cairo (Egypt), and the sanctions were handed in accordance with the CAF Statutes, FIFA Anti-Doping Regulations and Articles 10, 11, 43.1, 46 and 77 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.,” it read.

Al Maryam can appeal the decision.
