FG seeks State Attorneys’ help to domesticate national anti corruption strategy

The Federal Government on Monday pleaded with States Attorneys-Generals to activate and ensure the domestication of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy in their respective states to enhance successful implementation. The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), made this call yesterday in Abuja while declaring the National Anti-Corruption Strategy as working document for the Action Plan (NACS) (2017-2021) at the maiden annual sensitisation forum. Malami who spoke through the solicitor-general of the federation and permanent secretary, ministry of justice, Mr Dayo Apata at the event said the understanding, cooperation and collaboration of the civil society organization, stakeholders and members of the public are necessary for the successful implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy. “Our mandate is to ensure that the National Anti-Corruption Strategy is fully implemented. Accordingly, “I wish to solicit the cooperation and collaboration of all stakeholders, civil society organization and members of the public for the successful implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy.” “In the same vein, I also wish to encourage and charge the Attorney-General of the States to key into the scaling down process by way of activating the adoption and domestication of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy at the Sub-national levels,” he added. Malami recalled that “following the validation and adoption of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy and the subsequent approval by the Federal Executive Council, an Action plan for the implementation was developed, validated and adopted by relevant stakeholders, just as a framework for the monitoring and evaluation work tool was also developed. Speaking during the event yesterday, the Director Legal Drafting, Federal Ministry of Justice, Hamza Tahir disclosed that the Federal Government was poised to strengthen institutions in the country in order to continue the anti-graft war. According to Tahir, in its quest to succeed in the corruption drives, the Federal Government had carried out a skeletal analysis of the fights against corruption in the country. Earlier, , Head of the Secretariat for the implementation of National Act Corruption Strategy , Ladidi Mohammed, noted that the secretariat would continue spearhead the overview and critical review of implementation of NACS.
