Murder of unidentified middle-aged man unsettles Delta community

The murder of an unidentified middle aged man in Uzere, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State has unsettled residents of the community.

It was gathered that the victim whose name as the time of this report was yet to be known, head was cut-off from the body, and dumped at Uzere community Junction on Monday night by unknown persons.

But speaking to journalists on Wednesday, the Former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Oviozourie Macauley described the act as barbaric, and called on the Nigeria Police to fish out the culprits.

Noting the need for the police to intensify efforts to bring the perpetrators to book, the former SSG explained that Isoko communities had been peaceful, and will continue to be peaceful.

Sources said that the murder of the unidentified man may not be unconnected with the present communal crisis in Uzere community; a situation six persons were feared killed.

The Former SSG however urged residents of the community to douse their fears and work with the Nigeria Police by supplying requisite information that can aid their investigation into the case.

Also reacting to the development, the Special Assistant to the Governor on community, and conflict resolution, Mr. Evans Egbo described the incident as a taboo, and condemnable in all ramifications. While calling on the police to leave no stone unturned in unveiling the faces behind the acts, he also called for the co-operation of stakeholders, and residents towards solving the case

Further investigation revealed that the body of the beheaded man was missing with just the head at the junction of Uzere as fear of the unknown enveloped residents of the community.

But the Police Image Maker in the state, DSP Andrew Aniamaka who confirmed the incident, said that the deceased’s head has been deposited at the Central Hospital morgue in the area, adding that the matter was currently being investigated by the police.
