Taraba budgets N96.5bn, to focus on agric, others

Taraba Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku on Thursday presented an estimate of N96, 597, 308. 00 as 2018 Appropriation Bill before the lawmakers of the State Assembly.
The budget estimate tagged: “Budget of Sustainable Growth,” was presented before the legislators at the hallow Chambers of the State Assembly Complex, Jalingo.
Ishaku, at the occasion, said the figure recorded a decrease of 12.32% over the 2017 Budget, which was 110, 168, 883, 942.00.
He further explained that the reasons behind the decrease of the 2018 Budget from that of 2017 was due to lower expected receipts from Statutory Allocation, Value Added Tax, Internal Generated Revenue and Internal Loans.
The governor said N51,230,477,130.09 which represents 53% of the budget will be for Total Recurrent Expenditure ,while N45,367,312,178.00 which represents 46.97% will be for Capital Expenditure.
He commended the good relationship between the executive and the legislator, describing it as the reason behind the successful implementation of the 2017 Budget.
Speaking earlier, the Speaker, Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abel Peter Diah, while welcoming the governor , acknowledged the various successes recorded by the Ishaku -led administration in the state.
Diah mentioned improvements in areas of agriculture, health care services, commerce and industry, power supply, road development, water supply, employment and security.
The Speaker particularly appreciated the governor for employment and engagement of 3000 teachers in the state, a development which he said was not only to improve Education in the State but also to reduce unemployment across the 16 local government areas of the state.
Ishaku said, the cooperation between the executives and the legislators would further consolidate the gains which the people and government of Taraba State will cultivate in years to come.
