The Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Adjoto, says the Assembly will apply the full weight of the law on erring and defaulting contractors, for failing to execute road projects after collecting Mobilisation from the Federal Government.
Hon. Adjoto while presiding over sitting during plenary said the failure of Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company as well as Mother Cat Nigeria Limited to appear before the House to explain the rationale behind the abandonment of the Benin – Auchi road is an affront to the House.
The Speaker said contempt for the Legislature is a serious offence under the law and warned that the House will not succumb to threats or intimidation, but will rise to the task of alleviating the plight of Edo people passing through harrowing experience in assessing the road.
A press statement made available by the Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media and Publicity, Mr. Jacob Afeinkhena, indicates that Dantata and Sawoe and Mother Cat Nigeria Limited have been mandated to appear before the House on October, 23, 2017 at 10 am.
Hon. Adjoto decried the slow pace of work on the Benin – Auchi Road, which has inflicted untold hardship on the people and adverse effect on socio-economic activities of Edo State.
Meanwhile, the Assembly in considering message from the governor granted approval for loan to enable Edo City Transport Company purchase more buses to boost its fleet, as well as confirmed the appointment of Mr. Usidamen Christian Ofeimu as Auditor-General Local Government as requested by the Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.
Similarly, the Speaker after receiving brief from the Commissioners for Wealth Creation, Co-operative and Employment, Barrister Emman Usoh;
his Physical Planning and Urban Development counterpart, Mr. Edorodion Erimona; Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability, Mr. Reginald Okuns; as well as Commissioner for Infrastructure, Engineer Abraham Aimiolemen, urged them to key into the developmental drive of the state governor.
