1.5 Million People Flee Homes Due to Boko Haram Violence

The kidnap of more than 200 schoolgirls a year ago this week captured global attention and inspired the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls.

The terrorist Group Boko Haram have killed over 20,000 people since they launched their insurgency attack on innocent people in Nigeria.

Their aim is to float an Islamic caliphate and they use Islam as a disguise to their inhumane and unislamic killings. They are haters of Democracy, education and other religions.

According to UNICEF, More than 1.5 million people have fled their homes due to the violence, About 1.2 million are displaced internally, while others have crossed into Cameroon, Chad and Niger.

“The vast majority of the displaced — more than 880,000 — are staying with host communities with little access to humanitarian support, putting additional strains on already stretched health, education and social services,” it said.

Only a few have been able to travel to far away countries like the US or Britain or Canada to seek protection.

One of the victims, Ibrahim Olakorede Awofeso, an outspoken Islamic cleric was targeted multiple times by the terrorist after he preached in numerous Islamic seminars against their brutal attacks.

He narrowly escaped death in Dec 2008 on a journey to Jebba in Kwara state when the bus he entered was attacked and some passengers were brutally killed.

While it is not ascertained which country he is currently hiding, reports have it that he is currently in the US seeking for protection.
