Yobe APC Notifies National Secretariat over NEMA DG Expulsion

Leadership of Yobe State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday came to the national Secretariat of the party to notify it of the expulsion of the newly appointed Director-General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja.
The state chairman, Alh. Adamu Chilariye and the state party secretary, Alh. Abubakar Bakabe was at the national Secretariat and it was reliably gathered that they were on hand to notify the party on the latest development in the state party affairs.
Recall that the APC in Yobe State had on Tuesday June 13, 2017 expelled the NEMA DG over his actions towards the party.
In a statement released by the state secretary Alhaji Abubakar Bakabe, said they resolution to expel the NEMA DG was reached during the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting of the party over his alleged flagrant abuse of the APC constitution.
According to the statement, Section 21’D’ Sub-Section (V) of the APC constitution empowered the SEC to take punitive measure against erring party members.
Maihaja was accused of abusing the APC constitution by filing court action challenging the governorship election in the state which was worn by Ibrahim Gaidam, without exhausting other avenues of seeking redress within the confines of the party.
Maihaja, an aspirant under the APC went to court where he challenged the nomination of Gaidam as the party’s candidate in the 2015 governorship election, on the grounds that the governor had twice taken oath of office as governor, first when he was elevated from deputy governor after the death of Governor Mamman Ali, and second after winning the 2011 governorship election.
He lost the case both at the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.
“Maihaja also acted against Section 21 ‘A’ Sub-Section 10 of the APC Constitution, which warned members against filing action in a court of law against the party or any of its officers on any matter without first exhausting all avenues provided for in the party’s constitution.
“The action of the NEMA DG had created divisions, disaffection, disunity and lack of loyalty within the rank and file of the party.
“In view of this therefore, the party has expelled Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja indefinitely and hereby advised from this day to desist from parading himself as a member of the party”, the statement said.
