Yar’Adua’s 6th Anniversary: Jonathan remembers late boss, says lost a partner in democracy
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has paid glowing tributes to his late boss, ex-President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who passed on exactly six years ago, May 5, 2010.
Jonathan on Thursday took to his Facebook page and eulogised Yar’adua, whom he described him as a servant leader and a stickler for the rule of law.
According to him, he had lost a dear friend and partner in democracy, peace and progress, six years ago.
His words: “Six years ago, I lost a dear friend and partner in democracy, peace and progress. President Umaru Musa Yar’adua was a servant leader and a stickler for the rule of law. He may be gone but he is never to be forgotten. I pray for his soul and for him to rest in al Jannah firdaus.”
The late president who took over from former President Olusegun Obasanjo on May 29, 2007 was born August 16, 1951. He was the 13th President of Nigeria. He had served as Governor of Katsina State from May 29, 1999 to May 28, 2007. He was declared winner of the presidential election held on April 21, 2007, after beating then General Muhammadu Buhari and was sworn in on May 29, 2007. He was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In 2009, Yar’Adua was flown to Saudi Arabia to receive treatment for his ailment which had defied local healthcare. He was returned to Nigeria on May 2, 2010, and died on the May 5, 2010, which paved the way for the emergence of former President Jonathan.
