We have secured Plateau for you – Gov. Lalong to Corps members

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has encouraged the National Youth Service Corps Members (NYSC), posted to the State, to remain in Plateau for the mandatory period of one year, saying that the State is secured and safe.

“I believe some of you were apprehensive to report to Plateau other than your States of origin or areas where you are used to, but don’t worry we have secured the State for you”, Lalong said.

The Governor stated this on Thursday, during the formal opening and swearing- in ceremony of the 2020 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 Corps Members, deployed to Plateau, held at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Mangu Local Government Area of the State.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Sonni Tyoden, Lalong said: “let me assure you that Plateau State is the home of peace and tourism. Government has also put in place necessary modalities to facilitate the desired security and provide a favourable environment for the youth to develop and expand their horizon in keeping with the ideals of the NYSC scheme.
“Peace has been restored to Plateau and you have no reason to worry. Be on alert to report any suspicious activity”, he said.
Earlier, the State Co-ordinator, NYSC Plateau State, Mrs Caroline Embu, said apart from security, the NYSC management has taken proactive steps to provide preventive measures to guard against the contraction of the coronavirus by corps members.
Embu said infrared thermometers, hands sanitizers, wash-hand basins and soaps have been provided in all the orientation camps nationwide.
“The scheme is also in constant touch with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control as well as the Federal Ministry of Health for technical support, presenting sensitization and updates to provide requisite information on the deadly virus and how to prevent infection”, she said.
Our correspondent reports that the 2020 Batch “A” Stream 1 Orientation Course commenced on Tuesday 10th March, 2020, and will close on Monday, 30th March, 2020, with a total number of 2, 116, corps members comprising of 1,063 females and 1,063 males.
