UNN to begin the assemblage of laptop, tractors

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Prof. Benjamin Ozumba has said the University is set to commence the assembling of laptop and tractors.

Ozumba, who announced this in Nsukka during the launch of Roar Nigeria, said the aim of the initiative was to ensure that every students in Nigerian tertiary institution have access to laptops at an affordable price.

At the event which attracted renowned IT companies, like Google, Facebook, Huawei Technologies, the Vice-Chancellor said, “In the next three months the made in UNN laptops will flood Nigerian markets.

“Assembling of laptops is not the only dream UNN is nursing, it will also go into assembling of tractors for agricultural use in the next one year. ”

The Academia maintained that UNN will do everything within its capacity to collaborate with Roar Nigeria whose mission is to create home grown technology solutions with global impact to achieve the goal.

The Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who was also present at the occasion, noted that the concept of Roar Nigeria was in line with the effort of the present administration to entrench IT culture and generate employment for the teeming youths.

Ugwuanyi who was represented by the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Engr. Greg Nnaji, pledged government’s support for the initiative.

“Enugu state will support Roar Nigeria in information technology culture in other to boost economic development as well as enhance employment for the youths in the state.

“UNN has once again demonstrated its willingness and capacity to take up the challenge to deliver scientific and technological breakthroughs with the support of the private sector, would impact on the economic fortunes of the nation.

“There is certainly no doubt that Roar Nigeria Incubation Hub, will help create an Ecosystem that can fuel unprecedented technology growth in Nigeria and in African continent”, he said.

Speaking on the move, Dr. Stephen Thore Holme, the founder Ideon Science Park Sweden said the vision of Roar Nigeria would help in diversifying Nigeria’s economy.

“I know that this kind of innovation helped in diversifying Sweden economy, am hopeful that this Roar vision of entrepreneurship will also help in diversifying Nigerian economy if given the required support”, he said.

The Director General of ICT Infrastructure Solutions in National Information Technology Department Agency, (NITDA) Abuja, Dr. Isa Pantami who was represented by Dr. Collins Agu said, the agency is in support of Roar vision to provide professional support to enable the young minds convert their ideas to marketable products.

Earlier in a remark, the Chairman/ Director of Roar Nigeria, Mr. Okechi Igwebuike had said, “Roar Nigeria Hub is an ecosystem that supports upcoming entrepreneurs by providing professional support to enable the young minds to convert their ideas to marketable products.

“The hub will enable creation of indigenous solutions, jobs and economic growth within its environment.

“The initiative is a private sector driven that will be taken to other universities across the country”, he said.

The programme Manager Roar Nigeria, Mrs. Emem Seudieu said the Roar Hub project is the first of its kind in Nigeria and sub-sahara Africa and solicited for support from government and private sector to enable it achieve its objective.
