Teenager in court over alleged attemped theft of laptop

A teenager, Hassan Babagana, on Friday, appeared before a Grade I Area Court in Karu, Abuja, charged with attempted theft of a laptop valued N120, 000.

Babagana, 18, of no fixed address, is facing trial on a two count charge of criminal trespass and attempting to commit offence of theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Osho Olanrewaju, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on Aug. 26.

Olanrewaju said the matter was reported at the Nyanya Police Station by the complainant, Hassan Haruna, of Block 64, House 36/37, Area ‘F’ Nyanya, Abuja.

He said that Babagana entered the complainant’s residence without permission and attempted to steal a laptop valued N120, 000, but was apprehended.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 348 and 95 of the Penal Code
Babagana, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Judge, Mr Inuwa Maiwada, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Maiwada said the surety must be resident within court’s jurisdiction, and should provide a valid means of identification as well as a verifiable address to the court staff.
Maiwada adjourned the case until Oct. 28 for mention.(NAN)
