Taraba governor denies ordering clampdown on Tiv community

Taraba State Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has denied ordering a clampdown on the Tiv community over their refusal to accept the change in the name of a village.

The governor recently changed the name of Dan-Anacha village, an area dominated by the Tiv to Kwararafa.

In a statement yesterday by the Senior Special Assistant on Media Matters, Silvanus Y. Giwa, the governor described the allegation as baseless.

An online publication reported recently: “The governor has directed his officials to burn down the houses of Tiv people if they resist his order on the new name change for the village.”

Reacting to the publication, Ishaku reiterated his determination not to sideline any ethnic group in the state irrespective of political or religious affiliation.

He advised the public to dismiss the story
