Taraba flags off fourth OBR polio campaign

The Taraba State Government has flagged off the fourth in the series of Outbreak Response (OBR) Campaign for Polio Virus.
The Outbreak Response Campaign was scheduled in high risk states in the country, which Taraba is among the participating states.
Speaking at the event, which held at Jauro Yunu in Ardo Kola Local Government Area, the state governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku reiterated his administration’s commitments towards ‘total eradication’ of the viral disease in the state.
Ishaku, who was represented by the state’s Head of Service, Simon Angyu, said the state government would continue to give all issues and programmes concerning health sector and critical areas a top priority.
“You will agree with me that the health of our children and those unborn must be taken serious if truly we want to preserve our future generation,”
Darius Ishaku further added that it was owing to his administration’s efforts in ensuring that polio virus vaccination campaign succeeds in the state that propelled his consistency in the payment of counterpart funds, with a view to fulfilling his campaign promises to the people of the state.
“The consistency of my administration in payment of our counterpart fund demonstrate willingness of my administration to fulfil our campaign promises to the loving people of Taraba State”,
“The untiring support of our development partners including the National Health Care Development Agency is highly appreciated”, he said.
Earlier, the Taraba State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Innocent Vakkai, told the Governor that the Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHCDA), under the supervision of the Health Ministry has in a period of three months, successfully conducted three rounds of polio immunization campaign across the state.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Musa Obadiah, Vakkai said that the last round of the Outbreak Response Campaign recorded 956,875 children vaccinated ‘which indicate 100 per cent coverage.’
Commending the effort of Governor Ishaku in the fight against the dreaded disease, the Commissioner said, “Your Excellency sir, you may wish to know that in the entire North East and among the other Northern Governors, you are the first and the only Governor that have paid all counterpart funds for the implementation of polio eradication program; not only that paid up-front support funds for the remaining rounds of our campaigns”.
