Suspected IPOB members attack home of ex-member, kill three

Suspected members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, have attacked the home of a former top member of the group, killing at least three persons.

The incident occurred at No 2 Arochukwu Street, Coal Camp, Enugu, in the night.

A source hinted that Eneonyia Chiedozie peter, a former top leader of the group had last month decided to quit the IPOB, a decision that did not sit well with his colleagues.

They were said to have threatened him to rejoin the group or face the consequences.

However, a family source hinted that Mr Eneonyia Chiedozie peter told them he could not continue to be a member considering that some of the ideals of the IPOB were no longer in line with the dictates of his conscience.

“On that fateful night, we suddenly started hearing gunshots everywhere; they entered into the Eneonyia’s family house and said they were looking for Eneonyia Chiedozie peter.

“They told them he was not around; they said the family was lying. The next thing was that they shot two family memebrs.

“We later rushed them to hospital but they did not make it.

“From there, they went to the shop of one of his brothers, Eneonyia Chiedozie Peter and destroyed all the valuables in the shop. Peter, who used to sleep in the shop, escaped by miracle.

“The next day, they continued their search and eventually found Peter’s brother, their ex-member and shot him close to the market area,” the community source disclosed.

Meanwhile, the police confirmed the incident and said they were on the trail of the rampaging gunmen.

“Whether they are IPOB or whatever, we will get them to face justice,” a police chief said.
