Senate confirms Abike Dabiri- Erewa’s appointment as Chairman of Nigeria Diaspora Commission

The Nigerian Senate has just confirmed the appointment of Hon. Abike Dabiri- Erewa as Chairman/ Chief Executive Officer of the newly established Nigeria Diaspora Commission.

Her confirmation followed the consideration and approval of the recommendation of Senate committee on Diaspora and Non- Governmental Organizations.

Presenting the report, Sen. Rise Oko (Cross River North) said the committee after proper consideration of her nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari and subsequent screeening, found Hon. Dabiri- Erewa worthy of the appointment.

She said that Abike Dabiri- Erewa is a force to reckon with in the Nigerian Diaspora services, having served as pioneer chairman, House Committee on Diaspora, when she was member House of Representatives where she presented the bill seeking the establishment of the Nigeria Diaspora Commission.

In addition, she said Hon. Dabiri- Erewa served meritoriously as Special Adviser to the President on Diaspora Matters.

The committee commended her for the swift Intervention of her office in securing the release of Miss. Zainab who was indicted for grug deleted offences in Saudi Arabia from being convicted and executed.

The Senate however, expressed reservation on why the President forwarded Dabiri- Erewa’s name without other nominations as members of board of the Commission.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki therefore said the Senate will forward the request for other nominees for NDC board membership to the Presidency.
