In an apparent move to secure votes over his senatorial second term bid in the 2019 general elections, the senator representing Abia Central, T. A. Orji Friday recounted to Ohuhu people of Umuahia North LGA what he has done for them.
Addressing the crowd that came to hear from him at Umuosu Afuguri, Sen. Orji disclosed that he, as the then governor of the state made more than five Ohuhu people Permanent Secretaries, including another as Head of Service against all plans to deny the recipient that position on health grounds.
The senator who regretted that some people from the area did not like him, disclosed that he made many others Directors, Vice Chancellor, university Registrar, Commissioners and head of the state government empowerment agency “so that they will empower others”.
In addition he said, he involved many Ohuhu sons in his foreign trips to give them sense of belonging.
The senator recalled many roads he constructed and reconstructed in the area using their sons as contractors, pointing out, “if any was not completed, your son should be held responsible”.
According to him, others were empowered as Special Advisers and Assistants, while as a senator he has given many Ohuhu students scholarships.
In Umuawa Central School, he said he built 5 – room class block in addition to transformers in Ohuhuland, including ceding the position of the 1st Deputy Chairman of state council of traditional rulers to an Ohuhu traditional ruler.
Others, he highlighted include grading Ofeme road as a palliative measure and instituting free glaucoma and cataract surgery for over 650 beneficiaries.
He therefore pleaded with them to vote him in for the second time to enable him do more for them, indulging them also to challenge his adversaries to show what they have done for Ohuhu people.
As a senator he said, he has embarked on the provision of other infrastructure like electricity, water, and others in the 6 LGAs of the senatorial zone.
While describing the occasion as special to him, the senator revealed that it is only him in the senatorial zone that is contesting, while others are from the brother Ngwa area who are already holding the governor and speaker positions, hence the need to balance the positions.
Responding, the chief host and the leader of Ohuhu leaders of thought, High Chief Bartho Ukaogo affirmed that no one will dispute what the senator claimed and underscored the need to balance the political positions as it will not be good for Umuahia area to lose out,
with positions of the governor, speaker and senator going to the same Ngwa area.
The senator, he said does not hate Ohuhu, while sending a message to the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu that in the making of the next governor, Ohuhu should make an input.
