Security Operatives, Vigilantes Sustain Injuries In Gunbattle With Unknown Gunmen
Barely 72hours after unknown gunmen attacked a police checkpoint and set ablaze a patrol vehicle belonging to local vigilante network in Umuchu-Uga in Aguata local government area of Anambra state, unknown gunmen have again attacked security operatives at Ajalli burning down patrol vehicle in the process.
The recent attacks at in Ajalli community was sequel to the burning down of a patrol vehicle by assailants suspected to be unknown gunmen on December 5th 2024.
However, the attack of December 7th, which led to the burning down of 3 operational vehicles of the local vigilante network, was said to have started when the unknown gunmen in a Toyota Hilux were being trailed by security operatives to a check-point after snatching their vehicle at gunpoint and robbing valuable items from members of the public.
It was gathered that the unknown gunmen instantly opened fire on the security operatives at the check-point as they approached the check-point axis while local vigilantes within the premises immediately responded by exchanging fierce gunfire with the assailants.
An eyewitness account who preferred anonymity disclosed that the superior firepower of the combined forces of the security operatives and the local vigilante however compelled the unknown gunmen to abandon their vehicle and flee as one of the security operatives was said to have fired and deflated the tyres of their vehicle.
Prior to their sudden escape from the scene, heavy gunshots were reportedly fired by the unknown gunmen who brazenly set ablaze 3 operational vehicles of the local vigilante network at the check point community as local residents were seen scampering for safety.
Meanwhile, the spokeperson of the Anambra State Command of the Nigerian Police, Tochukwu IKenga in a statement made available to journalists, stated that an injured security operative and some local vigilante members were currently receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the attack of December 7th by the unknown gunmen at an undisclosed hospital.
