Rotary International canvasses violent free election in Nigeria

The Rotary Club International, District 9142, which comprises seven states in Nigeria, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states, has organised three days programme tagged ‘Walk Against Electoral Violence’ , “Ethics in Business & Professions’, and ‘Women in Rotary’, from January 25 to 27, 2019, at Abia Hotels and Continental Resort, Umuahia, Abia state. The programme which began on Friday with registration of guests and members, continued with training, seminar, lectures, cocktails, etc, while in the morning on Saturday, the members of Rotary International District 9142 and some Abians walked round Umuahia city, telling Nigerians the need to avoid violence and anything that will affect negatively, the forthcoming general election. Some of the roads covered were, Bende Road, Fimbarrs Road, Azikiwe Road, Aba Road, Secretariat Road, Lagos Street and Umudike Road. Addressing those who gathered at Abia Tower Umuahia, the District Governor, Rotn. Dr. Dan Chiedozie Ajawara, told them that, it is not right to cause or allow any form of violence in the upcoming general election. He continued and said, “vote in the good candidates, and ensure that you do so peacefully and harmlessly”. Other programmes of the event continued at Abia Hotels, where some dignitaries were given award for humanitarian services, while another lecture was given by Hon. Iwunze O.A.U, who elucidated on why and how 2019 general elections are vital, so should not be marred with any form of violence. Daily Times observed that the Abia Hotel open hall was filled with people as many honoured the programmes; members were in the venue till the next day.
