Rivers A’bly commission commends lawmakers on probe of MDAs

The Rivers state House of Assembly Service Commission has drummed its support for the probe being carried out by the Assembly lawmakers on Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) on the utilization of budgetary allocations.
Speaking in Port Harcourt on Thursday, the chairman of the commission, Mr. Chidi Amadi, said that the probe was part of the strategy of Governor Nyesom Wike to ensure accountability and prudence by his administration.
The Chairman said: “This probe goes to show that the Assembly is deeply concerned with how the state is being run. These processes would also ensure that all the agencies are up and doing, that we live up to our responsibility and that we are very mindful of public accountability in terms of how we use funds assigned to us.
So we are very grateful. We noticed that they stayed beyond six in the evening. This is a huge sacrifice. We want to encourage them to continue with that sacrifice in the service of Rivers State.”
Mr. Amadi who is also a former lawmaker in the state said that probing the MDAs would boost their service delivery to the people and commended the joint committee on Public Accounts and Finance for their oversight functions on the MDAs.
He continued: “Extensive oversight function is going on by the various committees and this is quite commendable. With what is happening here, all the agencies and parastatals and extra ministerial bodies would sit up. The committee on public accounts and finances are beginning to ensure that they take a critical look as to how funds already in the budget and funds already released to the agencies are being spent.”
