Rivers: 50 groups demand for riverine governor

No fewer than 50 political pressure groups in Rivers State, under the auspices of Rivers Conscience (RC) have demanded for the emergence of the next governor of the state in 2019 from the riverine Ijaw axis of the state.

They called on Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to respect the constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which stipulates the rotation of elective positions including the office of the governor in the spirit of equity, justice and fairness.

Addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt, leader of the coalition, Dason Nemieboka, regretted that in almost 20 years of civil rule in Nigeria, no riverine person has been elected as governor of the state.
