Political parties urged to give women more opportunities

The about 67 political parties in Nigeria have been advised to give more Nigerian women the opportunity to participate in the country’s governance, especially in Abia state.
A female political stakeholder in Abia and strong member, Abia state Legacy project/structure, Ugoeze Ihuoma Daniel Okezie handed down this appeal in Umuahia while interacting with newsmen, pointing out that in the past, women were restricted from politics, but now the most active players in politics.
She regretted however, that male hegemony has made the women folk to shy away from active politics, even when they are better politician than some male counterparts, stating “in politics, what the man can do, the woman can do better”.
She further said, “Before, women don’t come out for politics and were few, but now many has the interest to compete with the men as what a man can do, a woman can do better. So women should be given the chance in politics, especially in Abia. This is my advice for all political parties”.
Ugoeze Okezie encouraged more women not to be afraid of political terrain, but to come out and join parties as it is an eye opener and also educate women more to enable them interact fearlessly with any class of men.
She also regretted that the treatment meted on women by men in politics is too poor, as even when women help to enthrone a male politician, they will be forgotten when the men win.
She advised the Federal Government to offer one in every three positions to women in confirmation with the Beijing, China women affirmative action resolution.
The astute politician threw her weight behind the call for a second tern chance for Gov. Okezie ikpeazu, stating “For peace to reign, Abia Central and Abia North have taken their turns and did eight years each. Abia south should be allowed to complete its second term.
She pleaded with other parties in Abia to wait and allow Gov. Ikpeazu to complete his tenure, “after which any other person from any other zone should come out and contest”.
