Police probe 4 corps members in Delta over fake credentials

Police detectives attached to the Delta state Police Command have commenced investigation into the attempt by four persons to smuggle themselves into the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp for corps members of the batch B, stream 11 service year.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Adeyinka Adeleke, who confirmed the investigation to journalists in Asaba on Wednesday at a news conference, said that though the suspects are on the run, the police is doing everything possible to ensure they are brought to book.

“We have received report from the NYSC Delta state coordinator of how he foiled their attempt to be part of the orientation camp with doubtful credentials and we have swung into action to fish them out with their names through the documents they submitted and we will ensure it serves as deterrent to others,” Adeyinka said.

It was gathered that the four prospective corps members with suspicious academic credentials were denied registration by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Delta state.

State NYSC Coordinator, Benjamin Omotade, who confirmed that the four persons presented fake credentials from foreign universities, said the corps would not back down until all those who forged their certificates are fished out.

He said that the scheme would not condone graduates who do not know the fundamentals of what they claimed that they studied, adding “the recent happenings has really opened our eyes to the fact that we have to be extra vigilant as regards to the quality of our graduates whom we register in the scheme.

“For example, one of the persons claimed to be a graduate of economics in one of the foreign universities approached us for registration could not state the factors of production.

“As a matter of fact, she said has never heard anything called factors of production and we asked the graduate what the factors of production are since she claimed economics is her best subject, but she could not say it and as regards the others, they had succeeded in joining the scheme, and we discovered that they are fake. We are still investigating others with such credentials.”

Omotade disclosed that names of prospective corps members were sent to the police including other security agencies for investigation, adding that corps members at the camp have so far shown high level of discipline and commitment in their service to humanity.
