Police launch manhunt for gay activist over Endbadgovernance protest sponsorship

A self-confessed gay activist, Ajoku Amobi Franklin, from Amaigbo, Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo State has again been declared wanted over his participation in the August EndBadGovernance protest held across the country.

It could be recalled that Amobi was earlier banished from his community after he was cut red-handed making love with a fellow man. The self-confessed gay activist, it could be recalled, was arrested alongside his gay partner by members of the community’s vigilante group.

A source hinted that “he was caught with his friend over issues of gay. The community has always suspected him because of the kind of friends he kept, as well as some of the things he says publicly about gay people.

“He always demanded that gay people should be accorded their rights, a line of thought that has never gone down well with members of the community, who consider such unnatural sexual life as an abomination.

“So surveillance was heightened around him after his birthday party in a popular hotel in the community, which had in attendance several persons known to be involved in gay practices.”

It was gathered that Daniel managed to escape from detention and has not been seen ever since the incident.

“He has gone into hiding but he can’t hide forever. Even his mother was so embittered over his actions.

In fact, she called him on his mobile phone the day the police came and expressed her disappointment. The mother nearly cursed him that day,” the community’s vigilante leader said.

However, a few weeks after Amobi went underground, the police said he was spotted among the leading figures behind the recent hunger protest in the country.

A top police chief in Imo State Command told our correspondent that “Ajoku Amobi Franklin is wanted over his involvement in homosexual activities, as well as his role in the recent violent protest across the country.

“He has been under our radar after his community lodged a case against him that he was into homosexuality.”

“Only a few days ago, we got credible intelligence that he was one of those behind the hunger protest that led to mayhem across the country.

“So, we are still on the lookout for him, and we shall certainly get him to answer for these cases,” he added.
