PESBODS Reflects on a Remarkable 2024 of Impact and Resilience

Peachman’s Smile Boosters Organization for Children Living with Disabilities, Autism, and Sickle Cell (PESBODS) is proud to celebrate a year of profound achievements and unwavering dedication to empowering children and families in need.

Despite numerous challenges, 2024 has been a transformative year filled with impactful programs and initiatives that have touched countless lives.

Under the visionary leadership of Sheila Ngoli Akputa, PESBODS has continued to champion inclusivity and support for children living with disabilities. Sheila, a dedicated Business Analyst and the compassionate founder of the organization, exemplifies resilience and empathy, ensuring PESBODS remains a beacon of hope for families navigating life’s adversities.

The year began with a successful Garden of Spring Giving event held at Mississauga in partnership with SF6 which hosted about 15 families to a unique family event which involved photo sessions and a well spent day in a Serene environment, this was followed by the Back-to-School Drive, providing essential supplies to over 65 children and organizing motivational sessions to inspire academic excellence. Inclusive playdates featuring sensory-friendly games, music therapy, and art activities fostered community and belonging, setting the tone for a year of impactful outreach.

Food security remained a cornerstone of PESBODS’ mission. Weekly food packages supported families throughout the year, culminating in a special holiday food drive during the organization’s Christmas party, which benefited an additional 86 families.

Parents and caregivers were empowered through workshops and seminars, offering practical strategies for managing disabilities and autism. Partnerships with healthcare professionals and advocates further amplified these efforts, providing critical resources and education.

In a groundbreaking initiative, PESBODS launched a pilot mental health counseling program, reaching 50 families in its first phase. The organization also hosted its annual talent showcase, “PesTALENT – Hidden Talents Unveiled,” celebrating the unique abilities of children while fostering confidence and creativity.

The introduction of the PesCare and PesMentorship programs marked another milestone, offering short-term respite for caregivers and mentorship opportunities for children. These initiatives aim to empower families and provide lasting support.

The year’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, with PESBODS receiving accolades from local authorities and signing partnerships with Taibu and Surrey Place to expand its reach. These collaborations underscore the organization’s commitment to creating a more inclusive and supportive society.

Reflecting on the year, Sheila Ngoli Akputa expressed gratitude to the community, sponsors, and partners who have believed in PESBODS’ mission. “Your unwavering support has been the backbone of our success, amplifying our voice and impact across the nation. Together, we are changing lives and building a brighter future for these incredible children and their families,” she said.

With a strong foundation laid in 2024, PESBODS looks forward to expanding its programs and continuing its mission of bringing smiles and hope to children and families in the years ahead.
