Pelicans’ Davis scores 50 in losing effort

Anthony Davis was the biggest loser Wednesday night.
The Pelicans star began his 2016-17 campaign with a 50-point performance in a 107-102 defeat at home against Denver.

His scoring output was a team record for a season debut. He also added a game high 16 rebounds, seven steals, five assists and four blocks to become the first player in league history to record at least 45 points, 15 rebounds, five assistsand five steals since steals first began being recorded as an official stats 43 years ago.
Only four players, an elite group which also consists of Michael Jordan, Elgin Baylor and Wilt Chamberlain, have ever scored 50 points in a season opener.
