PDP wins House of Assembly bye election in Taraba

They Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate, Dominic Bukuni has won the January 13, House of Assembly bye election in Ardo Kola Constituency of Taraba State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Bornu Donga, stated this Sunday in INEC office, Sunkani headquarters of the Local Government Area while declaring the result.

The Returning Officer said Dominic Bukuni scored 8,848 votes to defeat his closest rival, Usman Sanusi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 8,308 votes.

While describing the election as credible and peaceful the Returning Officer added that the PDP Candidate, Bukuni has satisfied all the electoral requirements by scoring the highest number of votes cast and therefore, declared him the winner of the election.

Our Correspondent, who monitored the election, revealed that APC Chieftain, who doubles as the Minister, Women Affairs and Social Development, Senator Aisha Jummai Alhasan, in a chat with newsmen at Sunkani, while on an assessment visit, described the election as peaceful.

“I have told the Electoral Officers that any body that wins, give him even if he is my candidate, the APC”

“This is the safest and cleanest election I have ever seen”, she said.

Daily Times gathered that the Federal High Court sitting in Jalingo, Friday, 12th January, disqualified the APC candidate from participating in the said election which Taraba voters defied.
