A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta South, Chief Emmanuel Ono Okumagba on Saturday slammed those calling for the abolition of the party’s unwritten agreement of power rotation among the three senatorial zones in the state.
Okumagba spoke to journalists in Warri while reacting to the statement credited to some leaders of an ethnic group in Delta South that the rotating of the governorship position was outdated.
He declared that those making such calls were undermining the Urhobos magnanimity in their support for the PDP unwritten agreement on rotation of power in the state, adding that the population of Urhobos in Delta Central Senatorial District was more than that of Delta North and South combined.
He said “the Hausa – Fulani have been dominating power at the federal level owing to their population strength, but here in Delta state the Urhobos were magnanimous enough to accept the PDP unwritten agreement for rotation of power on senatorial districts in the interest of unity and the people should not see us as weak at all because it’s our turn in 2023.”
He said that those calling for the rotation of governorship seat in the state on the basis of ethnicity should therefore, be mindful of the fact that the Urhobos are in majority and have the numerical strength to occupy seats everywhere, and commended the PDP for its unwritten agreement on rotation of power.
Chief Okumagba however, called on the electoral tribunal to be upright in its verdict especially, on the last presidential election claiming that common persons in the streets know that PDP won the election.
On the outcome of the Delta state gubernatorial election, the PDP chieftain said that he was not expecting anything less because Okowa contested against a political neophyte in the person of the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Chief Great Ogboru.
