Owerri Magistrate Court grants 4 party agents bail

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) agent and three other agents of the Action Alliance (AA) were on Tuesday granted bail by a Magistrate Court, Owerri, presided over by Chief Magistrate R.O. Nworka for unruly behaviour during the collation of results in the hotly contested governorship election in Imo state.

The PDP agent and former House of Representatives member, Uche Onyeaguocha and the three Action Alliance (AA) agents, Steve Asimobi, Paschal Onwukaike and Oliver Enwerenem were arraigned for alleged electoral misconduct.

The suspects were arraigned on a 10 – count charge, including unlawfully disrupting the election process, destroying election materials, unlawfully destroying INEC result sheets for the governorship election for different local government areas, disorderly conduct, destruction of election materials, among others contrary to section 124 (5) and Section 128 of the amended Electoral Act.

The magistrate however, granted the suspects bail on self – recognition and N500, 000 each after considering the bail application moved by Onyeaguocha’s lead lawyer, Loius Alozie (SAN) and adjoined the case till May 6.

In an interview with journalists at the court venue, Onyeaguocha defended his action, insisting that it was meant to defend democracy and liberate Imo people from perpetual bondage.
