Obiano is a leader needed in turbulent Nigeria – Awogu

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has been described as the kind of leader needed in today’s turbulent Nigeria because of his open mindedness and non-discriminatory policies.

The Governor’s Special Assistant on Political Matters, Comrade Arinzechukwu Awogu, stated this in Atani during the Diocesan Men’s Conference of Anglican Communion at the St. Basilica of St. James, Atani, in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state.

Awogu, who hails from Atani and an Anglican, emphasised that the sense of belonging Governor Obiano gave other denominations in the state was not obtained in the previous regimes.

He said Governor Obiano allowed two persons of Anglican stock to emerge as the candidates of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the two House of Assembly slots for the State House of Assembly in the area.

This, Awogu said, would not have happened in the immediate past administration, saying “today, Anglicans have a sizeable number at the Ogbaru Local Government secretariat as Councilors including the secretary to the Ogbaru Local Government Area”.

“Before now, it was exclusion all the way for Anglicans. Out of the 16 councillors in Ogbaru, none would be an Anglican but Governor Obiano has changed the narratives because for him, there is no Catholic, no Anglican and no Pentecostal, the body of Christ is one,” he added.

Continuing, Arinze said: “Unlike before, the Diocese now feels the presence of government at all level and at all times even in the gracing of its programme.

The Anglican Communion in the state is more than ever before accommodated and it is so because we have a governor who does not promote denominational dichotomy and he does same to all faiths.

He does not discriminate against any religion rather he promotes religious harmony and I think he is the kind of leader needed in today’s turbulent Nigeria”.
