The Obi of  Onitsha, Igwe Alfred  Nnaemaka Achebe, in collaboration with the Red Cross, Anambra State chapter and Adona International limited have feted physically challenged children from 25 less privileged homes in the  state during the new year festivities.
In a brief speech at the occasion the monarch lauded the founder of Adona International Foundation, Ambasdador Afolabi Joyce Anene and the Red Cross in the State for packaging the programme for the physically challenged and less privileged children during the yuletide.
The  Obi of Onitsha challenged other privileged members of the society to emulate the gestures of the organisers so as to give the less  privileged children the opportunity to have a sense of belonging during yuletide celebrations.
The Chairman of Anambra State branch of Red Cross Society, Justice Paul Obidigwe (rtd) in his  speech said if  individuals  showlove and affection  to their own children, they therefore should extend same to less privileged children.
He contended that it is the responsibility of the public to extend their love to  these less privileged children in the manner they  showed love  and affection to their own  children.
Justice Obidigwe however expressed happiness that there are people who still come to the motherless homes to drop something for the children there, some yearly, some monthly depending on their conviction.
The chairman said the children pray for these people and one good thing is that that their prayer was always portent even as he lauded the sponsor of the get together for the children.
In her speech, Ambassador Afolabi Joyce Anene, said  that for 18 years her organization has been involved in the welfare of the less privileged children, organizing parties for them during festivities.
Ambassador Anene who said she is a specialist in special children stated they have been organizing such events  in other parts of the country like Abuja and Lagos and decided to  bring it home this year.
She said the essence was to make these special children happy like others whose parents are around  in festive periods, saying that they equally encourage people to contribute in making these children happy.
“Sometimes, people talk of  money as a source of happiness, but there are  glory and blessings in other things more than money like what we are doing today” said the Amabassador.
The Vice-Chairman of Anambra State branch of the Red Cross, Prof. Emeka Peter Katchy, lauded Ambassador Anene for her commitment in lifting the lives of the less privileged children in the society .
He said the Red Cross, Anambra State  chapter provided the enabling environment  for the event and commended  others sponsors who joined Ambassador Anene in  bankrolling  the event.
Prof. Katchy urged privileged Nigerians to emulate Amabassdor Anene to support Red Cross in the State  and the less privileged children, stating that apart from taking  care of the children in their home, they still pay salaries of workers and rent.
