NSCDC deploys 10,000 personnel to COVID-19 Isolation centres nationwide – CG

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana, has said that at least 10,000 personnel have been deployed to provide security at the various isolation centers across the country.

According to a statement signed by the Corps Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Okeh, and made available to Journalists, the CG made the disclosure at a one day training programme organized in collaboration with CLEEN Foundation and the UK High Commission on lesson learnt on Covid-19 policing, in Abuja.
He said that the deployment was to help provide physical security at the various isolation centers across the country to ensure safety and security of patients and to help prevent some recalcitrant ones among them from trying to escape from the isolation centers they are kept in.
Gana also said that since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country, the Corps have embarked on series of sensitization programs and citizens enlightenment to encourage them to take responsibility in ensuring that they stay safe.
“As a front line responder on COVID-19 containment and enforcement of guidelines and protocols in the country, the Corps has carried out a lot of sensitization and citizens enlightenment to encourage them to take responsibility in ensuring that they stay safe.”
Describing the programme as being very apt, he said that it could not have come at a better time than now as the general health and well-being of personnel is paramount.

He also commended its personnel, especially for discharging their duties effectively even in the face of the pandemic, especially those in the frontline of COVID-19 duty, some of whom according to him have become victims of the infectious disease and are currently at various Isolation centres, being closely monitored and presently doing well and responding to treatment.
Furthermore, he expressed optimis that the training will help to reposition officers to effectively discharge their statutory responsibilities during and after the pandemic in accordance with global best practices.
While appealing for more partnership with the Corps especially in the provision of PPE and other materials useful to protect and keep officers and men safe while risking their lives at the frontline trying to enforce the guidelines for preventing the spread and containment of the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria, he said that all hands must be on deck to ensure a resilient societal development.
