None payment of salary a criminal act -Gov Lalong

None payment of civil servants’ salary at the end of every month is an act equal to criminality, says Plateau state governor, Mr. Simon Lalong.

Lalong stated this on Monday in Jos, the state capital, during an event organized by the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in commemoration of the Workers Day celebration.

The governor faulted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state for saying that payment of salary is not an achievement, adding that if PDP is bold enough, it should come and stand before workers on May Day to say that prompt payment of workers salary is not something to celebrate.

Lalong said that he has taken note of the request made by the organised labour, which include the implementation of minimum wage regime to local government workers and primary school teachers, enrollment of retirees into pension and payment of gratuity to retirees, payment of outstanding 2012 batch “C” leave transport grant, payment of ‘no work no pay’, timely release of promotion and payment of promotion arrears to all workers in the state and approval of the purchase of land for workers housing scheme.

Consequently, the NLC state chairman, Comrade Jibrin Bancir, lauded the governor for his workers-friendly disposition and the achievement of his government in solving some of the sundry issues presented to him last year which he has attended to therefore winning the hearts of the workers.

Bancir added that “government must on her part continue to be committed, diligent, transparent and God fearing in her dealings. This, he said, would no doubt usher in an era of prosperity, productivity and above all industrial peace and harmony in the state.”
