NiMet cautions public on flooding, predicts heavy rainfall in Northern states

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted heavy rainfall over parts of Zamfara, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger and Kaduna state.
The agency also said expected moderate to Heavy rainfall is expected over Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Yobe, Taraba, Adamawa, FCT, Nasarawa, Gombe, Adamawa and Sokoto states
NiMet boss, Prof Bako Matazu as a result of the Heavy rains expected, said there were chances of flash flooding of roads, low-lying settlements and river channels.
Matazu also disclosed that the moderate and heavy rainfall events were expected to be accompanied by strong winds especially over the northern and central states during the forecast period.

He advised the public to avoid low-lying terrains, not to drive through running water, clear water ways of debris, avoid standing under trees and unsecured structures during the rain, switch off electrical appliances before the rains and not during it to avoid electric shock
He further urged them to be prepared for this event to avoid damages from weather-related hazards and watch out for updates.
