The 2016 Award Ceremony of the Nigeria Pitch Awards has been scheduled to hold immediately after the Super Eagles World Cup Qualifier in March 2017.
Speaking on the significance of this choice of date, Shina Philips, the President of the Organising body said “we need to pick a date which will attract the attention of football lovers and guarantee the presence of award winners.” He added that since most of our footballers ply their trade abroad, only match days like these would guarantee their presence in the country and ensure that they were physically present to receive their certificates and statuettes.
While expressing the appreciation of the Organisers to the Federal Ministry of Sports, the Nigeria Football Federation, SIAO Partners, all voters, winners and stakeholders for their support and patience, Philips stated that the venue and exact date would be announced at the media briefing in November.
Philips also announced that November 23 has however been set aside to honour and celebrate the 2015 winners, especially those who were unavoidably absent from the award ceremony in Kaduna. Among those set to be presented with certificates and statuettes are Ikechukwu Ezenwa (Sunshine FC), Paul Onobi (Sunshine FC), Godwin Enakhena (Sportsplash), Austin Okon-Akpan (Channels TV), and Tana Aiyejina (Punch).
The other winners are:Globacom, Nigerian ex-international and multi-talented entrepreneur, Chief Segun Odegbami, Enyimba FC, Lagos State and Ferdinand Udoh, Referee of the Year.
Philips concluded by inviting football stakeholders to this presentation ceremony which will take place at Ibis Hotel on Airport Road, Lagos at 11 am on November 23, 2016.
