Nigeria Pays 100% of ECOWAS Community Levy for the First Time in 19 Years

The payment, amounting to ₦85 billion and $54 million, was made on Friday, December 13, 2024. This sum covers the 2023 levy in full, along with contributions for 2024 up to July.

This move highlights the leadership and dedication of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration to fostering unity within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The ECOWAS leadership also expressed gratitude for Nigeria’s commitment.

“This payment underscores the leadership and commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the government, and the people of Nigeria to the ECOWAS community,” the statement read.

The ECOWAS Commission President, who has served since 2022, noted the payment as a personal mark of confidence in the organization and its efforts.
