New Year Eve tragedy: 5 killed, 13 injured in Ogun autocrash

Five people including three males, one female adult and a boy lost their lives at about 9.00am, on Sunday, at Ogere end of the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State.

The incident, according to Commander Florence Okpe of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command involved a white Mazda commercial vehicle with registration number DDA 121 XA and a red truck marked MGD 129 ZF.

The driver of the Lagos bound commercial bus was said to have lost control as a result of over speeding and veered off his lane and hit the truck parked off the highway.

Okpe said the reckless driver fled the scene of the accident and that a manhunt had been launched after him for arrest.

The FRSC officer said the injured were taken to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu and Victory Hospital, Ogere for medical attention.

Okpe said the corpses of the dead passengers were deposited at Ipara mortuary.
