Barr. Adebayo Shittu, Minister of Communications, has expressed the readiness of the Ministry to collaborate with the Nigerian Army on Information Communications Technology (ICT).

The Minister made this commitment known when he visited the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) recently in Defense Headquarters, Abuja, while recalling the visit of the COAS some months ago in his Office where the collaboration was first initiated which he deemed fit to reciprocate in order to further strengthen the collaboration.

He said the Ministry and all the agencies under her would be engaged to help in deploying technology in all aspect of the Military activities and operations where necessary.

He lauded the achievements made under the leadership of the COAS in fighting Boko Haram and other miscreant groups and urged him to do more so as to destroy completely terrorism in the country.

The Minister also urged the COAS to consider establishing a strong ICT department in the Nigerian Army and Military Academy, while assuring him of necessary support to complement his effort in fighting crime and terrorism, which cannot be fought with arms alone but with technology as well.

Lt Gen. Tukur Buratai, chief of army staff, thanked the Minister for finding time to reciprocate the visit and commended him for the good job he is doing in reforming the telecom industry and using ICT to add to the growth of the nation’s GDP.

The COAS buttressed the role of ICT to military operations and also the use of cyber space today, where one can fight war or battle right from ones office, adding that this cannot be achieved without the support of the Ministry; hence the need for collaboration.
