LGBT: Two homosexuals escape death by whiskers in Abuja

By John Haruna, Abuja

It was a chaotic scene, weekend, April 8, 2017, as a loud shout by a woman, one Mrs Cynthia chukwuma drew hundreds of residents to a bizarre sight where her husband, Collins obinna Chukwuma , was engaging in homosexuality.

The incident, which took place at the Durumi 1 area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, nearly led to the lynching to death of the two suspects involved in the illicit affair.

A police source at the FCT Police Command said that the timely intervention of the elderly men from the neighborhood saved the two men, Ojukwu Eze Moses and Collins Chukwuma Obinna from being burnt to death.

It was gathered that Mrs Cynthia, the wife of Mr Collins, who had long suspected her husband of belonging to the LGBT community, traced him to Mr Ojukwu’s house and alerted other neighbors.

“In a split of seconds, hundreds of people invaded Mr Ojukwus’s house where he was making love with Collins Chukwuma Obinna.

“They were both dragged out and the mob descended on them.

“It took the intervention of some of the elders in the area to save their lives from the mob, who were determined to set them ablaze,” a resident who witnessed the incident told our correspondent.

Meanwhile, a police chief said a manhunt had been launched for Collins Chukwuma Obinna and Ojukwu Eze Moses.

“They have been in hiding since the incident, but we are going to get them; they have to face justice,” he affirmed.

Our correspondent further reports that within the same month of April, a team of police led by DSP Muhammad Lawal-Mashi arrested and brought to police station 53 persons who were allegedly arrested during a gay marriage at Zaria Motel.

They have already been charged for conspiracy, unlawful assembly and belonging to a gang of unlawful society.

The suspects were later granted bail at the sum of N500,000. However, the majority of them were unable to meet the bail conditions and had remained in prison.

It could be recalled that same sex relationships have been banned and criminalized by the Nigerian state and attract 14 years in prison.

It is one of the major laws passed under the President Goodluck Jonathan administration.

However, many suspected gays and lesbians have paid the ultimate price through jungle justice as the act is considered an abomination across the country.
