Leru community honours indigenes, calls for unity

Leru community of Umunneochi LGA in Umuahia, weekend sued for unity, even as they also urge for good representation by their own.

This advice came on the occasion of end of year meeting of Leru Patriotic Development Union, Umuahia branch from the chairman of the union, Christopher Madu, stating that the occasion was the time to “remind ourselves for all to use the position one finds him/herself in as the position is from God”.

While thanking God for his mercies upon the Leru Umuchieze community of Umunneochi LGA of the state living in Umuahia, adding that the union will be using the occasion to honour two of their own who are commissioners in the state as their positions are from God.

He charged the honourees to ensure they represent the community well in the discharge of their functions as commissioners in the state.

The honourees were Prince Iroha S. Okechukwu, Commissioner II in Abia State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB and Fabian Nwankwo, Abia State Commissioner for Science and Technology.

Also speaking, the member representing Umunneochi in the Abia State House of Assembly, Prince Ikedi Ezekwesili thanked the union for honouring “his brothers”, adding that the honour was from God.

Other speakers include the immediate past member representing Umunneochi in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Ibe, former Transition Committee chairman of Umunneochi, Ijeoma Okorie, former Super Eagle football star, Karibe Ojigwe, Okey Ugbogu from Ndume in Umuahia, former Abia Line Manager, Ugochukwu Uwaeke and a Senior Special Adviser to Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu on Legal Matters, Anayo Okoli and Director, news and Current Affairs, Broadcasting Corporation of Abia, BCA Hyacith Okoli appreciated Gov. Ikpeazu for his numerous appointments to Leru people as well as infrastructures in the area.

In his response, a honouree, Prince Iroha S. Okechukwu thanked God over the honours bestowed on them adding that it is a good thing to be rewarded by one’s people as “a prophet with honour in his land”.

He reeled out what he has so far attracted for the people of Leru, and urged them to appreciate the state Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu over his appointment as a Commissioner II in Abia State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB and over his numerous projects in Leru.
