Lalong pledges assistance to widows of fallen heroes

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has pledged to assist widows of falling heroes in Plateau who fought during the civil wars and in the Boko Haram battle in the North East.

Lalong disclosed this Monday during the Wreath Laying ceremony to mark the end of Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at the J.D. Gomwalk Secretariat Jos, Plateau State.

“We are committed to assisting widows and families of the fallen members of the Armed Forces who fought in the First and Second World Wars, and those who served or are still serving in various peace support operation, particularly in the North East.

“That is why the Nigerian Governors Forum accepted to make funds available to improve not only the welfare of the Armed Forces but to sustain security in the country.

“We thought it wise that funds should be released for the purpose of strengthening security, although it is still under debate but I stand with those who believed that funds should be released to improve the security of this country and reconstruct military barracks for effective use.”

He urged Nigerians to continue to pray for the living heroes who have risked and continue to risk their lives in protecting the territorial integrity of the nation.

State Chairman of Nigerian Legion, Plateau State, Col. Sati Yilwat, applauded the Government for its commitment towards their welfare and said there are many of them who are alive but traumatized while others have been deformed.

He noted that many families are going through horrible and untold hardships, as a result of the ultimate sacrifice their loved ones paid to keep Nigeria together as a country.
