Lagos Taskforce nabs fake army officer

A fake army officer who has been terrorizing commercial motorists along the Lekki-Epe Express Way have been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Task Force.
The fake officer, identified as Usman Yaya (27yrs), was arrested on Monday when he tried obstructing the enforcement unit of the agency from performing its legitimate duties around Lekki, Lagos on Monday.
The chairman of the Lagos State Task Force SP Olayinka Egbeyemi who disclosed the arrest on Tuesday through a press statement said, “the suspect was arrested when he tried to obstruct the enforcement team from the demolition of shanties occupied by miscreants and hoodlums around White Sand School Lekki, Lagos. He had also beaten-up one para-military officer attached to the Agency.”
SP Egbeyemi stated that the suspect who impersonated himself as a Staff Sergeant in the Nigeria Army wore an Army cap on a mufti dress.
After his arrest, diligent investigations revealed that the Adamawa born was a fake Nigerian Army officer who had been terrorizing innocent members of the public. –
In his confessional statement, the suspect disclosed that he had only come to Lagos in February 2017 to search for greener pasture.
He claimed he was living with his friend, one Jona Johnson around White Sand School, Lekki, Lagos and that he had to intervene when the operatives from the Lagos State Taskforce came because everyone in his neighbourhood believed he was an Army officer.
He said, “I had looked for a job for about a month before I decided to start using the army cap I had stolen from my brother, a Staff Sergeant with the Nigeria Army to extort money.
“I had lived with my brother at Abacha Barracks at Abuja before relocating to Lagos. It was only commercial buses plying Victoria Island to Lekki that i was extorting money from every evening.”
Usman however pleaded with the government to temper justice with mercy as he is ready to stop the illegal dealings and return the Nigeria Army cap to his brother at Abuja.
Giving a word of advice to members of the public, the Chairman people to stop impersonating as security personnel as everybody has equal right before the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He however confirmed that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Mr. Fatai Owoseni had directed that the suspect be immediately charged to court.
A commercial bus driver, Gani who plies the said route told our correspondent that Usman and his friend for about a month now had been terrorizing them.
Gani, a commercial bus driver said they collect N100 from every commercial bus plying the area every evening.
