Lagos State organizes youth employability, enterprise initiative to tackle unemployment

As a way of reducing unemployment among youths in Lagos state, the Ministry of Education through the Office of the Special Adviser on Education, has organised its second edition of the Youth Employability and Enterprise Initiative tagged ‘Ready Set Work’ for students of Lagos tertiary institutions.

In spite of the public holiday declared by the Lagos state government in commemoration of the annulled June 12, 1993 election, students of Lagos State University turned out enmass for the Sensitization/Briefing Programme for the 2017 ready set work project.

Addressing participants comprising the semi-final and final year students of the Lagos State University on Monday at the Main Auditorium of the institution in Ojo, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Education, Mr. Obafela-Bank Olemoh said not enough jobs are being created to absorb the supply of labour thus the Ready Set Work is an answer to youth unemployment.

He said 2,000 students will participate in this year’s edition of the programme comprising students of six Lagos based institutions as the programme will hold for 13 Saturdays starting from June 24,2017 adding that there will be an Online Academy for 12,000 Students in their penultimate year with 5,000 internship placements in Partner Organizations are available for successful Students

Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Lanre Fagbohun said the programme is not just about employability or entrepreneurship but it is about changing the discourse and conversation about Nigeria as he urged students on the need to unmderstand the context of the Ready Set Work.
