Lack of confidence, bane of Eagles—Rohr

Nigeria’s head coach Gernot Rohr says players of the Super Eagles currently lack confidence following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
Rohr took charge of the Super Eagles for the first time as Nigeria defeated Tanzania 1-0 in a 2017 AFCON qualifier in Uyo on Saturday.
The 63-year-old German explained that one of his earliest impressions of the Super Eagles was a side glaringly short on confidence.
“This team is currently very low on confidence because they have failed to qualify for the 2017 AFCON.
“The players need confidence and the confidence will come when they win games.
“But first, we need a good defence to be stable and to attack better,” he said.
Rohr will now turn his attentions to Nigeria’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign which will begin in October.
Nigeria will face Zambia, Cameroun and Algeria in Group B of qualifying.
The Super Eagles will open their qualifying campaign with a fixture against Zambia in Ndola on October 3 and Rohr believes Nigeria will qualify for the World Cup because his charges are super “motivated”.
