KDSG reinstates 24-hour curfew, mourns HRH Agom Adara

The Kaduna State Government on Friday reinstated a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna metropolis and environs, Kasuwan Magani, Kajuru, Kateri and Kachia following heighten tension in the state on the death of the traditional ruler of Adara chiefdom, Dr. Maiwada Galadima.

The state government yesterday announced the death of HRH Agom Adara, Dr. Maiwada Galadima who was killed by his abductors on Friday.

“We mourn this quintessential traditional ruler who was killed by his abductors in the early hours of today.

“We are pained and heartbroken that criminal elements have taken away from us a man who did his best for peace and harmony in our state.

“The Kaduna State Government extends its condolences to the family of this revered leader and to people of the chiefdom he led with dedication and commitment”.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor (Media & Publicity) Samuel Aruwan said in a statement that the curfew took effect “from 11am, Friday, 26th October 2018 and will remain in force until further notice.”

“This is a necessary step to help maintain peace as we mourn the death of HRH Agom Adara, who we lost in the early hours of today (Friday) to the criminals who abducted him last week.”

The Kaduna State Government has also called for calm in all communities adding that “the criminal elements who perpetrated this crime should not be allowed to divide us.”

“This is a struggle between good, decent, law-abiding people trying to uphold the peace and criminals who want to divide and destroy. It is not a struggle between religious or ethnic groups. Let no criminal find succour in faith or tribe,” it added.

“Let us unite against every criminal activity. Let us stand together as human beings who have a right to live in peace.”

The Daily Times recalled that following the abduction of the royal father, the security agencies and the government worked strenuously to secure his release.

Kaduna state government expressed its shock and disappointment yesterday over “this unfortunate development” and vowed that the government of Kaduna State and security agencies will pursue justice for this revered man.”

Aruwan described Galadima as “a man of peace” who consistently made positive contributions for the peace and tranquillity in his chiefdom and the entire state.

“He was a gentleman to the core,” he added, stressing that the state has lost a cherished leader.

“The governor on behalf of the government and people of the state extends his deep sympathy to the immediate family and the people of the Adara chiefdom.

“The government also appeals for calm in the chiefdom and beyond as the criminal elements that did the heinous deed should not be allowed to further divide us.”

HRH Galadima, his wife and driver were abducted last Friday during which four people including his police orderly were killed by the kidnappers.

The wife and driver were later released, but the monarch was killed by his abductors who dumped his body by the road side early today at Kateri village, which is a notorious kidnappers den on Kaduna – Abuja highway.
