According to him, the dam was built in 1983 to provide six million cubic litres of water to Malumfashi and kankara local government areas.
He revealed that the project when completed would provide 12 million cubic litres of water daily to the two council areas and the surrounding villages.
The Permanent Secretary added that the on-going rehabilitation work include the construction of a 10 kilometres access road to the dam site and the rehabilitation of the dam spill ways.
Other scope of the work, he said include the repairs of the water pipeline, fencing of the treatment plant and the rehabilitation of the water overhead tanks, as well as the rehabilitation of fifteen staff houses.
Responding, Governor Aminu Bello Masari who expressed satisfaction with the quality of work executed, said the expansion work at the dam was awarded to address the scarcity faced by the people of the area.
He however urged the contractor handling the project to ensure standard and complete the job as scheduled.
Similarly at the Government Science Technical School kankara, Governor Aminu Bello Masari who expressed disgust over the pathetic situation at the college, promised to urgently address the problem to make it conducive for learning.
According to him, due to the on-going rehabilitation work at the school, government would invite the Science and Technical Education Board with a view to decongesting it.
“We intend to start by seeing how we can decongest the school through allowing students with WAEC and NECO exams to stay behind, while others with nothing much to do can be sent home to avert any outbreak,” he concluded.
