Kaduna/NLC crisis: C’ttee summits interim report

*recommends payment for sacked workers
In a bid to restore industrial harmony in Kaduna State, the Committee set up to conciliate between the State Government and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has submitted her interim report to the Federal Government.
The Committee which was headed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour, Dr. Yerima Tarfa, has also recommended that the state government commence the payment of all the sacked workers.
The committee also recommended that a letter overriding all the queries answered by the affected nurses should be issued as a matter of urgency.
“Initially there was an announcement that they were sacked. So we said the letter should be written by the Kaduna state government to override all these queries that were answered by the affected nurses.
“We also recommend the reversal of the posting of the NLC chapter person back to Kaduna city.
“In line with our findings, the recommendations of the internal hospital panel exonerating the two nurses should be implemented.
“Also, we recommended the implementation of the report of governance committee on Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS),” the committee said.
However, Tarfa said that although there are still some contentious issues, he hopes that the Minister after going through the document will give direction on how to resolve them.
Tarfa expressed optimism that the final report of the committee will be submitted next week after the interim report has being fine-tuned.
On his part, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has commended the committee for adhering to the terms of preference which was mandated of them.
He said that report submitted would help to resolve all the lingering industrial crisis in the state as both the state government and the workers represented in the committee are satisfied with the out come.
“The term of preference of this committee, I’ve been adhered to, what you set out to do and the result we have produced so far in terms of the mandate for my technical committee to look at people who are due for retirement, old age and people who are facing disciplinary matters and people who are not supposed to even enter the service in the first instance.
“That’s helps the work and the employees workers when seeing this alone, will know that there’s no victimisation because if you ask the man who is been removed because of improper certification or fake certification, he will say he doesn’t know why he is removed.” He said.
