Jonathan, Hero of Democracy in Africa – Rights Group
A human rights group, Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) has described President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as hero of democracy in Africa, particularly, in Nigeria.
In a statement, the group said after the late Sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the hero free education and late business mogul, Chief M.K.O. Abiola, the hero of June 12, 1993 Presidential election, President Jonathan has taken uncommon courage to take uncommon decision in a democratic struggle and stability of the nation.
It maintained that President Jonathan has shamed his critics, especially, former Nigeria President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and others who had earlier claimed that Jonathan was planning to turn the country to Cote’dovire under former President Gbagbo where many lives were lost during the political turbulent in that country .
People, from all over the world, have been pouring encomiums on President Jonathan over his action in the Presidential election when he conceded defeat to his arch rival from All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari (rted), saying that Jonathan has raised his head high among the world leaders, adding that Jonathan has re-written the history of black race on a democratic ethos among the continents of the world.
In the statement signed by its Executive Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman the group, insisted that Jonathan unlike Obasanjo has surpassed his predecessors in office as African renowned and reliable democrat of the century.
“It is not surprising to us that President Jonathan took an unprecedented and uncommon decision of conceding defeat to his opponent, General Buhari, despite the glaring electoral malpractices in the process, before the nation’s electoral body formally announced the Presidential result.
“At this point, we should remember Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Bashorun M.K.O. Abiola, Dr Nelson Mandella of South Africa and the late legal luminary and Social crusader, Chief Gani Fawehinmi who God used through his sound legal mind to open and widen the political space which allowed the operation of multi-political system for the country”, he added.
He said members of the group at home and abroad had concluded arrangement to team up with other members of the opposition groups in the country to put the General Buhari’s administration on its toes through constructive criticism for the betterment of Nigeria masses.
Sulaiman declared that: “It is our belief and resolve that viable and strong opposition are strong pillars and ingredients for survival of any democracy which we are prepared to provide for the lot of Nigerian
masses through constructive criticism. Buhari should not be seen as a messiah but elected President under democratic structure to contribute his own quota to the governance of this country”.
