IT professionals to brainstorm on adoption of 5G technology in Nigeria
To discourage the conspiracy theories surrounding the 5G technology, the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), will on Thursday, July 9, host stakeholders in the Information and Communication Technology sector to a virtual brainstorming session on its adoption in Nigeria.
Disclosing this at a pre-conference virtual press briefing on Thursday, the President/Chairman-in-Council, Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria), CPN, Professor Charles O. Uwadia, said the session which is the focal point of the 2020 CPN IT Professionals’ Assembly/Annual General Meeting, has the theme, “Adoption of 5G in Nigeria: The Technological and Regulatory Challenges” and will be held online.
Uwadia said though the adoption of 5G technology, which has been touted as the next frontier of investment, has the potential to drive economic growth and social inclusion, yet its adoption is not without challenges.
“It is for this reason that the 2020 IT Professionals’ Assembly would be considering the technological and regulatory challenges associated with the adoption of 5G viz-a-viz the future of frequency bands, deployment and coverage, device support, security and privacy, Digital Infrastructure challenges, outdated regulatory policies, removal of impediments to the expansion of digital infrastructure, commitment to actions that promote the long-term growth of the digital economy, misgivings and health concerns against it, among other issues,” he stated.
The CPN president, who was supported at the press briefing by principal officers of the council including the vice president, Mr Kole Jagun, and registrar/secretary to the council, Mr. Allwell Achumba among others, also disclosed that no fewer than 400 persons will be inducted as IT professions at the event.
Contributing, the Vice President/Vice Chairman, CPN, Mr Kole Jagun, said the 5G technology was basically an enhancement of the 4G technology and would build in the successes of 4G technology.

He called on Nigerians to embrace the technology, adding that the misgivings about the 5G technology was unnecessary.
