Impeached Edo Speaker too greedy, says new Speaker

The newly-elected Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Elizabeth Ativie, has said that her predecessor lost his position because of corruption and high- handedness among several other anomalies.

Ativie spoke to a group of journalists in her home in Benin on Thursday.

She said that the arrogance of the former Speaker got to a point whereby he became almost like the Lord of the manor, even on issues relating to the welfare of members.

Mrs. Ativie said: “the former Speaker, like I said in the chambers, was very corrupt . . . to the extent that the majority leader, who is the leader of everybody in the House . . . did not know anything about the finances of the House.”

She asserted that the situation was so bad that members were living like paupers and that anytime they enquire about what was really happening the former Speaker will put the blame on the state governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
