Imo Guber Re-Run: PDP Calls for Cancellation of Process
Barely 72 hours to the supplementary election on the inconclusive April 11 Governorship and House of Assembly polls in Imo State, the state leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Wednesday, called for outright cancellation of the entire exercise over alleged electoral frauds.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state had declared the election inconclusive and fixed April 25 for re-run of the polls, as a result of electoral violence and electoral malpractices. Briefing newsmen at the PDP state headquarters in Owerri, the Chairman of the party, Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie, alleged that there was massive frauds orchestrated by INEC officials during the March 28 Presidential and April 11 Gubernatorial elections.
He alleged that the ward Electoral officers, local government Returning officers and some INEC officials were invited to Government House on the eve of the April 11 poll by the All Progressives Congress (APC)- led government and offered them between N1 million and N5 milion. He said that despite the alarm raised by the PDP, the commission went ahead to deploy them to various wards and local government areas to conduct elections. According to him, there was selective deployment of card reader machines to PDP strongholds, while manual accreditation of voters were carried out in APC dominated areas.
